Alright guys and gals. Here is an email I got about the next gathering to expats. This isn’t but 2 1/2 hours from my house so ya know I will be there. I would love to see all of you that worked in Iraq or Afghanistan show up. It is always nice to talk to people that have been there and done that and not have to explain everything to them.

It’s that time of year again. This year we have decided to change the date of the 3rd Annual Expat Get Together in the hopes of getting more people to show up. This year we are planning on a 3 day weekend in New Orleans.

Date: Friday, September 18, 2009 through Monday, September 21, 2009
Where: Renaissance Arts Hotel, New Orleans, LA (www. marriott. com/hotels/travel/msydt-renaissance-arts-hotel )

The room rates are $99.00 per night through Travelocity and booking directly with the hotel (www. marriott. com. Search: Renaissance Arts Hotel, New Orleans, LA or 800-431-8364). If there are those of you that don’t mind sharing a room with someone to reduce your expenses, let me know and I will try to arrange something. The contact person for this year will be at the Renaissance Arts Hotel and if you ask for the Expat Group, I will be asking the hotel to try to arrange for our rooms to be close to each other and to put you in touch with that person. Hopefully it will be me, but it depends on my surgery schedule. If I cannot make this gathering I will try to let you know in advance who the contact person will be. If you book your room online please call about 3 days before your arrival to notify the hotel reservations personnel that you are in our group.

If you don’t wish to stay at this hotel you are free to choose where you want to stay, just provide contact information if you plan on attending so we can get in touch once we arrive in New Orleans.

As always this is just an informal get together and the only thing that we ask is that you be available for dinner Saturday night. I have looked into something that I think would be a nice evening and if you are interested let me know. This hotel is walking distance to many of the main attractions of New Orleans, including the French Quarter, The Garden District, the Aquarium, the Riverwalk Shopping area and many more attractions. For those flying in there is a shuttle to the hotel. There is a restaurant and lounge at the hotel and a few restaurants and bars on the same block as the hotel with many other dining options within walking distance.
