A year ago today, an independent cameraman employed as a freelancer by Reuters – who are largely too cowardly to do their own reporting – was arrested by US and Iraqi troops. While specific allegations and evidence is classified, publicly the military accused him of working with insurgents. Listen to how Reuters describes the issue:

The evidence against Jassam is classified, but the accusations have to do with “activities with insurgents”, said Lt. Col. Pat Johnson, a spokeswoman for the U.S. military in Iraq. The term “insurgents” in Iraq generally refers to Sunni Islamist groups, like al Qaeda. Jassam is a Shi’ite Muslim.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the purpose of Reuters and journalism to be accurate and knowledgeable? So why is it that Michael Christie doesn’t understand the nature of the insurgency in Iraq? How can he be so ignorant and downright stupid about such an obvious thing?

Michael, all me to educate you a little since I doubt you’ve spent even a day outside your cush little office in the Green Zone with this absurdity. I highly suggest that Michael, David Schlesinger, editor in chief of Reuters, and Thomson Reuters deputy general counsel Thomas Kim learn a little bit about the military and the nature of intelligence before slinging around such baseless and ignorant accusations!

The insurgency is both a Shi’ite and a Sunni problem. The insurgency is not wholly based on Al Qaeda. Each side has committed insurgent activities ranging from small arms ambushes to IEDs to beheadings and kidnappings. Your assumption intentionally misleads your readers ruins what little integrity you have in the eyes of the public.

  1. The coalition (now down to one) of the willing is waging a counter-insurgency (COIN) campaign in Iraqnam. That means the basis (or “nature”) of the insurgency is to end American occupation of Iraq.

    • Vigilante, that’s intelligent. Did you come up with that all by yourself?

  2. American army has ruined the Iraq. IRAQ was amoung top 20 rich nations until America started the stupid operations.

America attacked Iraq which isn’t a terrorist nation but America won’t attack Pakistan which is proven that the government itself supports terrorism. The weapons which america is giving to Pakistan is used for Al Qida against India.

    • Here’s a thought, Mrugesh. Next time a dictator of your country traverses human rights, supports terrorism of it neighbors, claims to have weapons of mass distructtion and constantly challenges the US, you are most welcome to deal with the problem yourself. If you don’t choose to and we feel it is a threat to the US, we will deal with the problem for you.
Most soldiers on this site would rather not leave their families and let you deal with the problem, but you didn’t so we did.

    • If you didnt support what the US Military has done for you Mrugesh, you should have felt free to stand in front of any one of the over 4000 of them who gave their lives protecting your sorry butt.

  3. Gegh. I really do despise Reuters and the Associated Press. They’re assholes. I’d try to be a little more precise in my opinion of their work, but why bother? Assholes lack ears.

  4. The world is full of stupid people.
Hey I like to diddle. Am I stupid too?
What is a litmus test of stupidity?

I must be a liberal, or liberally drunk.

  5. There is a government program so secret you can not apply to get in. You have to be selected. Giving a proper response to the above ink blot could be a first step. Are you ready to do anything moral including make a fool of yourself to help defend America from people who would harm our fellow citizens?

    • (Wo)man, how do you know, if it’s so secret?

  6. Yes, a questioning disbelieving attitude is a prerequisite. Is a remote viewing ability perhaps a second characteristic? What about a degree in °Gyrooncology”? Now go back to the ink blot.

    • So, if I have a “questioning disbelieving attitude” I will magically know about this mythical unit of which you speak? You didn’t answer the question: how do you know about this uber-secret unit? Did Elvis tell you about it?

  7. If someone wanted you to have certainty they would have told you. Some things that appear very serious are really a joke. Some thinks that appear to be a joke are really serious.
