A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Long time readers know of my near obsession with the story of Taking Chance. I’ve watched the story grow from just a story passed along through email to blogs and to the HBO film finally released last year. It was an amazing film and did the story, Chance, and LtCol Mike Strobl justice.
Hollywood isn’t known for it’s kind view towards the military. We often take a very harsh beating and are subject to stereotypes that aren’t only inaccurate, but borderline on disgusting. It is refreshing to see one of their awards shows see what an amazing performance Keven put into bring LtCol Strobl to the screen and even more into our hearts.
Congratulations, are due to the entire cast and crew of Taking Chance. My deepest congratulations goes to Kevin Bacon for winning Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

I was delighted at the recognition, too. I thought he did a superb job in the role.

I missed that, since I don’t really follow those things anymore. I’m glad to hear this.

I was deeply moved by this movie and how well it was made Kevin was outstanding. I grew up on a military base in texas during the vietnam was and my father escorted many boys home he felt it his duty if they were from texas and people who were not military at that time were different. i am so glad that our soldiers are getting the civilian support and honor they so deserve

I watched the movie today (2-21-2010) for the first time. I wish that every person who lives in the USA would see this movie. It was truly one of the best films I have ever seen and I didn’t have a dry eye the entire time. Very touching. Beautifuly done. I thank Chance Phelps’ family for being willing to tell the story. May we never, ever, forget the sacrifice of so many men and women.
