A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
In November 2009, the morons at the Anti-Defamation League released a report titled “Rage Grows In America: Anti-Government Conspiracies.” The authors of the report have the audacity to suggest that a “climate of anti-government fervor and activism” was created “since the election of Barack Obama as president of the United States.” Really?
I searched the ADL website forwards and backwards looking for a report talking about all the “anti-government fervor and activism” that was so prevalent during the Bush Administration. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any. None. Not one. It’s not because there was no such thing as rage against Bush – it was everywhere! It was because the ADL is a leftwing extremist organization in and of itself.
The report cites “growing beliefs [that] threaten to create a large pool of people more susceptible to extreme anti-government conspiracy theories and even calls to resistance on the part of extremist groups and movements.” Again, I couldn’t find any mention anywhere in ADL’s vast resources that mentions all the extremist groups that also advocated anti-government conspiracies (9-11 anyone?) and calls to resistance (IVAW/ANSWER/Code Pink).
The report did bring to my attention a group I wasn’t aware of and plan on looking into: Appleseed Project (also known as the Revolutionary War Veterans Association). According to the ADL, it is “a marksmanship program that combines firearms training with historical/political lectures on the battles of Lexington and Concord in the Revolutionary War.” I’m in, sign me up!!
Tomorrow (or today, depending on when you’re reading), Americans across the country will be participating in Tea Parties. The Tea Party is target number one in the ADL report. The report notes that the tea party promotes ideas that are outside the mainstream and that “angry protesters have frequently made claims ranging from proclaiming Obama’s “socialist” intentions to making explicit Nazi comparisons to suggesting that the President is defying or even subverting the Constitution.” You mean like this:

Or this:

Instead this image is used in the report:

Interestingly, you could take practically every claim in the report about Tea Partiers and their accusations against President Obama and easily – EASILY – replace them with accusations made against President Bush. The difference, however, is that the ADL didn’t release a report in 2004 or 2006 or 2008 complaining about or drawing attention to THOSE extremist organizations and individuals.
The ADL website condemns – rightfully – the threats against President Obama’s life, yet I don’t see any condemnation in their archives against Cindy Sheehan when she published her book, “Peace Mom,” in which she writes that wanted to go back in time and kill the infant Bush. She admits in the book that she had those thoughts “often.” There was silence in the ADL at the kill-Bush fictional documentary at the Toronto International Film Festival, “Death of a President,” a British mockudrama that envisions the assassination of President Bush. There was no condemnation at Hollywood’s gushing over it either. The organization turned its head when a video game was published online called “Kill Bush,” in which the goal is for the player to shoot Bush. Points are deducted for shooting “innocents” like madmen and crazy doctors.
The report also complains about the Townhall meeting disruptions that occurred during the health care debate and angry confrontations with congressional members. I didn’t see a report about Code Pink attacking Condeleeza Rice with blood on their hands or disrupting congressional meetings over and over and over and over again.

They targeted the “birthers” and Fox News. They also highlighted talk radio, especially “the Conspiracy King” Alex Jones. Now, I’ve never heard of Alex Jones, but he’s based out of Austin and his show is supposedly syndicated. He also operates the Infowars and Prison Planet websites. Jones is also a “truther”, casting doubt on 9/11, but you won’t find that anywhere on ADL’s website, except a small mention in this report.
What bothers me the most, however, is their mention of the “Oath Keepers.”
Oath Keepers is a non-partisan association of currently serving military, veterans, peace officers, and firefighters who will fulfill the oath we swore to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God.
Our oath is to the Constitution, not to the politicians, and we will not obey unconstitutional (and thus illegal) and immoral orders, such as orders to disarm the American people or to place them under martial law and deprive them of their ancient right to jury trial.
We Oath Keepers have drawn a line in the sand. We will not “just follow orders.â€
The report seeks to demonize OK members by portraying them as a violent, militant extremist group. They quote an anonymous poster who is not an official spokesman of the group to further that belief. What they don’t quote, go figure, is OK’s own “about” page that explains what OK are not:
We are Not advocating or promoting the overthrow of any government whether local, state or national. We want our governments to return to the Constitutional Republic which the Declaration of Independence and the
Constitution defined and instituted. We are Not advocating or promoting violence towards any organization, group or person. We are determined to Keep our Oath to support and defend the Constitution.
We are not advocating or promoting the removal of any person from his or her elected office. We want all elected persons to live up to their Oath to “support and defend the Constitution†as it is written or to leave of their own volition.
We are not advocating or promoting that anyone in the Judicial Branch be removed or replaced. We want the Justices in the Judicial Branch to follow the Constitution as written without interpretation.
We are not advocating or promoting any particular form of government other than the Constitutional Republic which the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution defined and instituted.
We are not advocating or promoting the rewriting of the Constitution nor are we asking for an Amendment thereto. We are insisting on the Constitution being Enforced as it is written.
We are Not advocating or promoting any act or acts of aggression against any organization or person for any reason including, but not limited to; race, religion, national origin, political affiliation, gender or sexual orientation.
We hope for a return to a Constitutional Republic free from fear and hatred. We hate only tyranny.
We are Oath Sworn Americans who want the Constitution returned to its legal and rightful place, intact, as the ultimate Law of the Land.
Not only does this gross misrepresentation of many patriotic Americans concerned about the direction of this country and its leadership, but it’s being shared within military circles! An active duty Military Policeman and reader of this site is the one that sent me this report after it was passed down through official channels as a BOLO or advisory. Thankfully, it hasn’t yet been passed intelligence channels which would be a violation of Intelligence Oversight laws and regulations, but military law enforcement personnel are supposedly being briefed on this report and using it or informational purposes so that these troops can keep their eyes peeled. This concerns me and only legitimizes the purposes and concerns of groups like constitutional militias and Oath Keepers.

Outrageous, but of course, not surprising at all. This IS their standard operating procedure.
Will be posting this and linking to you tomorrow.
Thank you!

Oh come on, CJ! You know how this works. The Left makes all the claims about the Tea Party that they do because of personal experience with their own groups ala the “hate Bush” tirade they lead for eight years. The fact of the matter is these are just children that want attention. Ignored long enough, they will tire of their tantrums and fall asleep or become productive members of society.
Terri
Utterly disgusting, but not surprising at all.

wonder if the ADL maintains a list of “undesirables” ala Hovver’s FBI? I suppose I’m on that list since I oppose Obama’s socialist-like agenda; attend Tea Party gatherings & generally believe in their message that Obama is leading us down a bad path; have children in the military (I don’t think they are officially OathKeepers but w/ support them if they are)… and c/n agree more that ADL is blind in its Left eye… but WHY IN HELL s/ the military care what CIVILIANS are doing?? agree — scarey!

How about we just call each other ‘Americans”?

I’m with you on that, Bob.
Will you be changing your screen name to “Bob the American”?
Bob The Liberal
Sure, why not?

The ADL ( Abe Foxman ) and Morris Dees (Southern Poverty Law Center ) are two peas in the same pod. If you do not agree with their political ideas you are a racial bigot!

What I find interesting is that the ADL has been warped.
The crazy right-wing side has always been for Israel and the Jewish people, and Obama has been consistently throwing them under the bus since his election.
WTF happened to the ADL that they are putting out this tripe??

I don’t really consider the ADL either left or right. They have their own agenda, much like AIPAC.

I would have to agree there, Steve.

I understand only too well that ADL and SPLC have outlasted their reason for being.
They are struggling to keep making money from the Federal coffers.[They SELL those reports you know.]
SPLC started as a group of lawyers fighting the Klan in the deep south.
ADL started fighting the Antisemites.
Both admirable causes only …. both the Klan and the antisemite groups have shrunken to almost invisibility BUT the folks in the ADL and SPLC organizations still need to feed their families and pay for their offices so ….
“Selling ” opinion pieces as fact to the LEO community and the DoD can make nearly as much money as actually fighting injustice.
One simply has to be able to provide someone for the LEO’s to hate and chase while protecting those extremely valuable contracts and connections to the Federal pay trough er paycheck system.
Oath Keepers have been vilified by both and for what ?
Professing the fact that they will OBEY the Constitution and Honor the Oath we all took to support and defend the same ?
Professing the fact that [as the UCMJ Requires] they will not obey Any Unlawful orders ?
Oath. Keepers. It really is that simple.
Since every LEO and GI has also sworn that same Oath are we to assume that every GI and LEO is now some kind of “violent extremist” ?
That is what the SPLC and ADL would have you believe and it appears that DoD is not even questioning the information.
One would hope that Professional Career Soldiers and Law Enforcement Officers would at least read what they are being told to pass along as “Authorized Intel”.
An absolutely astounding lack of individual responsibility to their own Oath, the Constitution and OUR Nation.

Thank you for this coverage CJ. Photos do speak louder than words.
Just for the record, I spoke with Stewart Rhodes by phone last Monday while he was in DC for the NRA rally. He had not heard about this military email. He asked for it so he could read it on his blackberry. There was a lively discussion with our people afterwards. I have not commented here in anticipation he would follow-up in Oath Keepers.
No one seems to have the answer to my simple question: WHY NOW? Just why would DOD dredge up old news from a left leaning ADL days before the national Tax Day Tea Parties.
From our public safety professionals who without public notice cover most DC events, I can tell you the DC Capitol Police presence the weekend of the health care vote was very alarming. Why is clearly visible on our http://crimewatch.us website.
That unusual show of force was not present on 4/15 or last week at the NRA event. I hope that’s good news but we must be vigilant.
