It’s late and I really need to get to sleep, so I’m not going to delve into this too much. It’s so insane, if true, I really think I’m dreaming right now. So, I’m going to just quote from my dream and hope I wake up to reality in the morning.
“”Fort Hood officials want to stress that there has been no decision to pursue the death penalty in the case against Major Nidal Hasan.”
Okay, maybe it’s a nightmare, but I can’t wake from it if I don’t go to sleep! When will the pills kick in?!

Ok, didn’t they just file papers within the past few days to declare they were going after the death sentence?

The Army is saying that the talk about going for the death penalty isn’t correct. Here’s a local report from yesterday:
“Fort Hood officials say there has been no decision to pursue the death penalty of Maj. Nidal Hasan, despite recent reports.
National headlines reported on Wednesday stating the Army had made a decision for the death penalty of the Nov. 5 Fort Hood shooter are inaccurate and misleading, according to Ft. Hood.“

It’s too bad the law abiding soldiers were disarmed.
Had they been: A) he might have been too cowardly to commit these murders in the first place. B) his death sentence would have been carried out on the spot, most likely before he was able to shoot 30 people.
Normal people don’t go around killing each other just because they have a gun; the gun is good to have in case we happen to encounter the one that isn’t normal.

Ok so do we have someone in prison that will take the coward down!?

Yet another sad statement on what we’ve become in this country. Keep telling it like it is, brother!

The announcement that the Army would go after the death sentence came from his lawyer rather than the Army.
We were caught in the lockdown that afternoon and evening, and it is my opinion that death is not a good enough option unless it is done by a firing squad. A simple injection, or the application of electricity is TOO EASY.
An actual death sentence would also make him into a martyr to those that think as he does. His martyrdom would elevate him far higher than he deserves.
It is too bad that the first responders only wounded him. There are a few people in this world that do not deserve a trial because their acts have been too horrendous.

I noted the original “announcement” as well; it didn’t come from the military — it came from the defense lawyer.
I think its a little bit more esoteric. Follow me here:
- The defense lawyer receives notification, as required, that the prosecution plans to include evidence of “aggravating factors.”
- Said lawyer goes to the press, telling them (correctly) the only reason to include such terminology is to lay the groundwork for capital punishment.
- Press goes to the military, asking them to confirm.
- Prosecution says, correctly, that they have made no decision. In fact, they’re just covering their bases and leaving all options open.
So they’re not discounting it, merely saying they haven’t “decided.” Given the circumstances, I wouldn’t rule it out. I suspect the defense lawyer was just trying to liven things up by releasing interesting stories to the press.
Keep in mind, too, this is just for the Article 32 hearing. We haven’t even gotten to the grand jury yet.

This criminal should be executed for his crimes. Politically correct officers refused to act on many instances in his past where he openly stated his disdain for America, our involvement in Iraq and the fact that his first loyalty was to Islam. The bottom line is that these officers had a duty to act and most did not, fearing a backlash should they try to get a Muslim soldier punished or reprimanded for his actions and words. The result? Many fine soldiers killed by a terrorist that was allowed to exist in our ranks.
I say death by hanging.
On the same gallows used for Saddam Hussein’s execution.

Grunt, you’re jumping the gun here. No real decision has been announced. Which is the way the majority of prosecutors work. They don’t announce until the very last minute, even though papers may be served months in advance. Believe me, they will seek the death penalty. Its the only thing that makes any sense.
Considering Hussein was hanged in what looked like a stairwell (ok, I’m probably wrong, but it looked like one to me), no, that won’t do.
Publicly though, yes, I’d like to see that. Hell, put it on PPV. We should do that anyways with all executions. It would make up some much needed revenue.
And the only method the military uses now is lethal injection.

The soldiers he shot didn’t get to wait while it was being decided whether they would get the death sentence or not, did they.
I can understand the confusion. I really believe that Obama wants to be king, but he has to bring the USA down first. So Hasan to him would be like one of our soldiers to us. He has to figure out a way to keep one of his own alive. I am guessing the decision will come from the top.
