I was sent this video and to be honest, I was shocked. I haven’t seen it anywhere else. In the interest of debate, as an American, if you saw this in our country, would you be ok with it? If you live in small town middle America like I do, would it disturb you less if it happened in a big city like Detroit or NYC but not your own little town? Some of the comments are hostile and one said, “Give me a bus and I will clear the blocked street!!” Would that be considered racist? I’m just curious what you think.

Very simple, come to my country, respect it’s laws, same as I do when I go to yours. Don’t like my country’s rules, then find another country.
I didn’t like not being able to eat in a public place during Ramadan in the UAE, I didn’t though because that’s the law.
If I found I did not have freedom of movement in my country I would sue the offending party, I’m Canadian and I defend those laws with my life, respect them so I can respect you.

My country’s rules are to respect the religion of others as guaranteed by the first amendment. They are expressing their religion. I seriously wonder if that would/could happen in a liberal bastion like San Francisco here in the US. But in small town America, I think there would be some serious problems. And then there would be cries of racism and religious suppression. It’s just…weird that the French are so laissez-faire about it.

A friend of mine left this response on my facebook page to this:
“I’ve already ran into this, albeit on a much smaller scale. I Portland, Maine, most of the taxi drivers are muslims. When we left the Jetport to get a cab, we had to wait because ALL of the drivers were at prayers. They were all together at the end of the concourse, praying, with their little rugs, and a rather large crowd of folks had to wait for them to get done so we could get cabs. They’ve already ried other BS things, like refusing to pick up unaccompanied women, people with dogs, or people going to the package store, etc. Absolute BS, but the local officials are all leftist apologists and nothing seems to be getting done.”

Considering it’s against French law then it shouldn’t be happening at all. What would happen if any other religion blocked streets to practice their faith without legal authorization? It’d be broken up. Muslims seems to get special treatment wherever they go, it’s the truth and it shouldn’t be happening. If they won’t respect the laws of certain countries then they should either be forced to or deported. No question about it.
LL
Why do you think they get special treatment? Is it based solely on the fact that a small portion of those practicing that religion use real threat of harm, death, and destruction to achieve their ends?

I’ve seen something very similar to this in DC. During some Muslim holy days in the vicinity of the mosque, they just parked their cars in the middle of the streets, blocking the ramp into Rock Creek Park and parts of the parkway. This was back in 94.
