A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
March 2 was my 37th birthday. I spent it in the field training for a deployment to Afghanistan this summer. So, while I had to work a 16 hour shift on my birthday, I considered it an honor considering that it was also the day that Texas celebrates it’s independence. March 2nd is also Texas Independence Day! My great state is 176 years old!
Did you know…
Texas is the only state to have the flags of 6 different nations fly over it. They are Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, Confederate States and the United States.
Texas is the only state to enter the United States by treaty instead of territorial annexation (and we COULD succeed from the union if we ever did want to become a whole other country ).
The state flag of Texas is the only flag in the union that is allowed to be flown at the same height alongside the US Flag.

The King Ranch in Texas is bigger than the state of Rhode Island.

The dome of the capital building in Austin stands seven feet higher than that of the nation’s capital in Washington DC.

The first word spoken on the moon on July 20, 1969 was “Houston”.

Laredo is the world’s largest inland port.

If you were born here you know you are special. If you moved here, thank God he brought you here! If you were born here ON March 2nd, well that’s TEXAN! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEXAS!!
