A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
I’m going to get right to the point with this one. But, first, watch this video about what a “government shutdown” really means:
Now, while the reality is that the military will still be paid and for the most part combat operations won’t be affected, the truth is that training IS being affected.
The Army, at least, operates on a six-week training cycle. All training is planned at least six weeks in advance to allow ample time for planning, coordination, and preparation. However, because of a lack of a budget we can’t plan any training past March 18. For example, I have training that I need to attend in April, but I can’t orders approved or processed because we don’t have funds to pay for it. This training is necessary to get proficient in my duties while deployed to Afghanistan.
So, when someone tells you that it doesn’t really affect us, remember this. But, don’t get me wrong. I want Congress to get it right! I want a smaller, less bureaucratic government. I want a less wasteful government. I want a more thrifty government. They just need to get to it sooner rather than later!
