The Nigerians and other scammers using images of troops to dupe women around the world out of their hard-earned money has gotten a bit more sophisticated. But, it’s still not difficult to out them.

The one thing I’ve told everyone that is a failsafe method for detecting if the person claiming to be a Soldier is really one is to ask for their military email address. Well, now the scammers are actually spoofing emails and making their correspondence appear more official. However, just because contacts you from what LOOKS like a military address, don’t be fooled. You can still prove this.

First, if you get an email from someone claiming to be in the military and using a military email address, reply to the email but don’t send it. When you click reply, look in the address bar and confirm that the email is even going a military email address. 9 times out of 10, you’ll see a completely different email in the To: box. I do that with my ASP email. If the email address is anything other than the .mil email address, it’s a scam!

If the email address still is a .mil email, go ahead and send an email, but don’t say anything. Just write “test” or something in the email. If it’s a fake email, you will immediately (or soon) get a return email that what you sent was undeliverable. Again, you need to make sure before you send the email that it’s actually going to a .mil email address. While the scammers can spoof an email coming from a .mil address, they can’t create fake accounts within the .mil domain!

Second, check the email details to find the exact path from which the email came. This is a bit more technical, but not too hard for those using Gmail or Yahoo. Check your particular email provider to find out how to do it with your email. For Gmail, it’s easy. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Open the email.
2. In the upper, right hand corner of the email, you should see a button that says “Reply” and has an arrow next to it.
3. Click that arrow and select “Show original.” This will open another page that shows the backend of the email, including email path.
3a. For Yahoo, Click the arrow next to the “Actions” button at the top of the email, then click “View Full Header”
4. Scroll through the first few lines. If you see anything besides a .mil there, it’s a spoof.

Here’s an example from a Yahoo account:

Notice the bold points. This is how you figure it out. It’s nearly impossible to spoof an email without these obvious signs that are embedded into every email.

  1. Hi i´m from Brazil and i just realized i was been a victm of one of these scammers…i just realized it was not true cause we ask me to fill in a request, as his wife to be. It supposeddly would give him a chance to take a leave and come to meet me.
It scared me cause we were talking for a short time and he didn´t know my father´s a brazilian official retired…so i realized he was a scam.
The point is…how could i let the real guy (the one he´s sent photos) that he is using his identity? I really want to allert him… would you tell me how can i do it? is it possible? Thank you very much for all the help you can give me.

    • Hi I’m from Australia and I had emails from a Sgt Henry Ramos and pictures that collabrated him in uniform which showed he was indeed a sgt and was in afghanistan with only 8 weeks to go before he was sent home. He then was going to retired from the army after serving 28 years. He told me he lived in Aust from the age of 4 and that he went back to US to go to college and then joined the army. He told me he was divorced for 2 years and had a 15 yrs old son. He wanted to come back to Aust to live because life in US was too frightening now. I played along with him for about 4 week when he said he wanted to send some things to me because he had been robbed before and money taken and that it had happened agn but nothing taken. He wanted to send me his dress uniform, medals he had received while serving this time, some money and his resignation letter. It was to be delivered by a diplomat courier to any place of my choice. No mention of money was received by me as I told him I couldn’t accept the delivery. He had told me I had let him down but continued for a while emailing me before just stopping. I had been watching for indications that it was a scam but he was very good at this and his language was typical american in that it wasn’t like an foreigner typing. Everything was perfect english and not like a foreigner at all. I was wondering if it would be possible to be put in touch with Aaron Ramos to assure him that this time the scammer was a perfect gentleman to the end. I also have pictures of all his family.

      Thanks you Sonia

  2. I have found out that the scammers are reading these websites.. I know because my scammer printed out on msn word for word my comments on another site like this..but the email path is interesting.. I now know that the emails i received should have been sent 4.5 hours after GMT were being sent 7 hours behind GMT.. so they couldnt possibly be where he said he was.

  3. I only found these sites after the event – why cant the dating sites take responsibility – what is wrong with a warning about the Military Dating Scam… surely then all of us would be informed..

  4. There is much publication of the US Military Scammmer, mine was British Military – so all be warned!!

  5. Anyone who wishes you to use MSN to chat will probably be a scammer… usually without picture and will swoop upon you to chat and then MSN… dont do it… Take a step back and think why!!!

  6. has any one heard of a james_miller0020@yahoo.com being used in a scam.

  7. I am Australian and I have been scammed big time. The name used id Sgt Major Charles Edwards and now I am being harassed by telephone still asking for money that I wont send to them. You can tell that they are not from the US and they have insisted they have contacted the Australian Federal Police and now I will be in trouble

    • Hi Gay i came across this site as i have been recently communicating with a Sergeant Major Charles Edwards serving in the U.S army and is based in Afghanistan zone?. We began our ‘ communication’ around early Oct 12th. He who took an interest to my profile on match.com N.Z. Unfortuntately, i am somewhat in a position that i could be caught up in this ‘ scamming’. Especially when he began to ask for money to be sent thru’ western union in order for him to have a ‘ Military Telecom service’ install so that he is able to call me from Afghanistan.. so, lo and behold i was talking to friend about and she has insisted that i needed to find more background about this person. Hence, we came across this site … and so am quite in a shock. As this person that i have been communicating with in the last few weeks has been a ‘ hoax’ all along. Not too mentioned i have already given out some of my personal details of my home address and so forth. He has also been declaring his ‘undying true love to me and i in returned unfortunately have been sucked into professing my love to him…He has also sent a few pics of him in army uniform and photos of him at where he is posted. The photos looks so real. He says he has a 16yr old daughter. His wife passed on died of cancer to lungs. I’m hoping you would give me some insights as whether this person is part of this militiary scamming. My heart was just pounding when i saw the name of the id person that you were scammed big time by. I would really appreciate and look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. Regards Maina

      • I have been corresponding with Sgt. Major Charles Edwards for the last week. He gave me the same story he gave you. Thankfully he only knows which state I live in. I feel like a fool.

        • I was recently contacted by this individual. Same story. Googled and found this website. My, My, My, duped. He was quite charming and wrote with great poetic appeal. Good to know about this!

        • I was contacted too by this Sgt Major Charles Edwards, yes there are many pics of him in and out of his uniform. He gave the same story his wife died from cancer of the lungs. He said he had a 16 year old daughter. He does write very poetic of course I fell for it until he asked for money for phone communication. Any time I am asked to pay for something I realize that love don’t exist because anyone that loves someone will not ask for money for anything. Afterall if they love you they will pay for you and themselves.

      • I too was contacted by this Sgt Maj Charles Edwards and I thought all was good til he asked me for money for a phone. Well I have worked with the military all my career I know they can allow their people to have phones without costing the civilian he wants to reach any money. I did some investigating and sure enough you all have ran into the same person. Course I wonder whoes pics those are he is using or if he stole someones identity. There should be some way those dating sights could check people out before they allow them to use their sights.

        • wowwwwwww The exact same thing happened to me just last week.. He sent me a Military web site to enable me to phone him it was going to cost me 300 Dollars to register.. but I would get it back..
When I told him No way was I going to pay that money he suddenly disapeared without trace.
Im sick of these Men in Ghana posing as Americans. He contacted me on the web site called “Are You Interested”.. There is also photos of him on facebook. same photos he sent me. some in Military uniform some in civvies. He also told me his wife died of lung cancer and he has a daughter called Victoria.. She is looked after by the family Nannie. He said he has a house in Chelsea London.. and one in Paris… His late wife was a model..
I wish someone would stop these scammers .. I can see why so many women get taken in by these men they seem to be so convincing.

        • Hi Glenda,

I know that Match.com has a Security Section to make us aware as soon as we sign up. Did I read it? NOPE. I found it yesterday after I emailed them about the guy scamming me. But I just realized that no dating website is going to stop anyone from joining, even a scammer. Think of all the money they are making by allowing these Scammers to pay to join, then when they are found out the dating site takes down their info, but they still get to keep their money. The dating sites make money and unfortunately the scammers sometimes do too, but scamming all of the loving, kind and generous women out there with broken hearts and failed relationships ~ who are just looking for love. Take care Glenda.

  8. Major Gen. John F Campbell is currently seeking a new partner, to replace his cheating wife whom he recently divorced! Really? Not the first place I’d be looking…perhapys match.com might work! Uses skype name : jjohnf.campbelleagle6.
Speaks grammatically incorrect English in chats. Be aware! Scam alert.

  9. Colonel Davinson Jackson and Captain David Cochran. Both supposedly stationed in the Sudan. I was scammed – I wish I knew then what I know now. Be aware.

    • Hi April, I writing you this email to ask you a few questions. Has davinson Jackson mention he was a single father? Have you sent him money for his retirement, boarding cost for the plane. Cause he is scamming me as well. I kind want to hear your story to see if it is the same as mine. I hope to hear from you.

  10. Hi my name is Tara and I believe that I am being romanced by one of these scammers. His name is Captain Winfield Scott and he is supposedly based in Afghanistan. He has asked me to pay for a t2S communication phone claiming that he has no access to his bank account in Kabul. Today he told me that he had his tour extended an extra 8 months. He wanted me to write to his Commander asking for Emergency leave saying that we had a family emergency in Canada. Of course I would have to pay for his plane ticket.
Is there anyone that I can get intouch with to report this guy and how do you go about warning the real soldier that he is obviously impersonating?

The man I spoke to had an accent. He also got me to give him my phone#. Im more concerned abot this guy Tim. How do they get these pictures of these innocent military men? is there any way you can find this scammer since you have his name and address?

    • Dear Susan
I am so glad i have read your comments. I have been talking to a majortim45@yahoo.com for the past week. He has mentioned that he wants me to apply for leave for him so he can come and spend time with me. He tells me he is in the USA Army and has been stationed in Lybia. Has a 5 yr old son back in new york and has sent me photos. i cannot belive this is happening over the world. This is the third scam that has happened to me in the past 3 month , although i have not sent any money. For some reason after chatting with him tonight i decided to google his name and this web site came up
Thanks Susan for warning other girls
      Rita

    • hi susan i to was scammed by a nigeian who was calling hiself martin lauseng i wonder if this tim lauseng is related this nigerian was useing a photo of a white american soldier.

  14. Hi, I am UK based. I almost believed the guy who was supposedly called Captain Philip Robert Cares and was supposedly US military based in Afghanistan. He contacted me through http://www.perfectmatch.com I have emailed that site to complain/warn them and asked them to call me. It will be interesting to see of they bother.
Luckily my scammer made so many mistakes via the dating site and email that they rang very loud bells so my suspicions were raised right from the start.
I would like to know if Dating sites are regulated in any way, and therefore if we could complain to some form of regulatory body.
Many thanks for providing this invaluable website and information. It enabled me to waste only an hour or two over three days before I realised it was a scam. Please keep up your good work, for the sake of all those single women out there! Lorraine

  15. Yes…I am scared I gave out too much information already…or pictures of me he will use!! please what I should I do…..!!

  16. I have a friend who is talking to a Sgt Frank Lucus stationed in Afganistan. He has asked her to marry him within two weeks. Yesterday he sent her papers to fill out to request leave for him. As yet he has not asked her for money, as most scammers do. He says he has been deployed for 5 years without taking leave. He is suppose to come home Nov 10th, and says they will open up a bank account so the military will deposit money owed to him for not taking leave. He has also told her he has not received a paycheck in 5 years, as his money has been directly deposited into a US bank account and he does not have access to it until he comes home and fills out paper work at his bank. This is confusing because I know scammers ask for money. I still feel he is a fraud, how can I help her.

    • body Melinda -

I can’t seem to find a Sgt. Major Michael Quigley in our organization (the
Illinois National Guard). If there is an emergency you need to contact the
American Red Cross to get a message to him. Call (877) 272-7337 (toll-free
within the continental United States). Also below is the website with
information regarding emergency communication services for deployed
      servicemembers.

      Thanks,
      SSG Snyder

I think i have been scammed by a michael who is using the same story you are saying. He wants me to go to Australia to meet his mother blah blah blah. He said he worked for toshiba since 2005 -2010. Asked me to request a leave for him with his commander. But when i sent the request the email address was rejected 5 times. But low and behold he mysteriously received it ( commander) cuz he claims he was interviewed (michael) the next day. Yea ok this is the National guard in afghanistan. Anyway so i have attached a letter from the commander above who states they cant locate that soldier in their whatever operation. This guy (fake email address) said he had to pay 2% taxes on his 185,000.00 in order to leave the country for a leave. I questioned the fact they should be exempt as soldiers but michael states that they just want money. So he slowly claims that he is short $750 to complete his taxes so he can come home. Which i told him he wasnt moving in with me cuz i didnt know who the hell he was lol. I told michael i lost my job and didnt have the money. So michael says that he will come up with another plan. And me i already saw this site so i’m just waiting for the ” open and account” crap. which he told me to do today through a http://www.USAA.com site which is for soldiers and families. I told him he is not checking out thru emails and through the national guard and i was not opening an account in my name for a phantom who i cant even prove exists. I have his ID scanned on my computer along with his check made out under my name along with his, cuz he states if he doesnt make it out of there i am his next of kin. whatever . Heads up chicks he might come ur way cuz i told him i was gonna investigate him thru the number listed above in the letter to the american red cross. In my heart i hope the soldier isnt dead and this pig is using his ID. But i will feel like an ass if he does check out ok. But 9 out of 10 i doubt it.

    • @ Lauren you can help her by telling her this is a crock of bullshit SHE CANNOT request leave for any military member the military member is the only one that can do that IF he were a real Military member he would have access to his account at ALL times no matter where he is you can tell your Friend she is being scammed and to expect an email from this same scammer pretending to be someone else when she fill out the so called leave request forms asking her for money just because he didnt ask for money right away do NOT mean he is real also tell your friend to tell him to get on cam for 30 minutes to an Hour and chat with her and ask her to ask him to send her a copy of his most recent Les for 6 Months to a year since she is about to be his wife tell her send no money NO real military member needs your money for ANY reason.

      • to anon i spoke to you recently about someone who had contacted me through a dating site and who in emails had asked me for money,i saw on tv how obama at fort bragg yesterday was fetchibg all troops home from iraq by xmas,i mailed this person and said that he didnt need money being sent as he ll b home anyway,he said obama was lying and that no troops were being sent home and how u s troops were being let down by him,

  21. Captain Thomas Raymond / Captthomasraymond / using thomasraymond87@gmail.com / yahoo messenger
as ID captthmasraymond01@yahoo.com / “A widower and an American soldier
currently serving his deployment in Sudan on peace keeping mission.” However his english vascilates to something horribly wrong coupled with comments which seemed way out there and over the top. ITook me a day to realize he is a fake. Then I found your site and wow! Keep up the good work informing everyone and providing this venue. Totally sux that there are people like this out in the world. You should hear the bullshit stories he made up. My goodness.

    • Sargent Philips Wells. Met him this weekend on Match.com from a scammer using the same exact story as yours. In Iraq on a peace keeping mission. Widower with a wife who died giving birth to twins here in Massachusetts supposedly. OK, now we have the best hospitals here so I asked him what happened and he replied with crazy sentences that made absolutely no sense at all. Whenever he didn’t want to answer a question, he would say something like “What God giveth, he Taketh Away”. Suspected something wasn’t right about him immediately but because I met him on Match.com and I had just joined the day before, I really had no idea this was all going on. When I reported him to Match, I noticed a place on their website that said BE CAREFUL OF SCAMMERS. I wish I had read that when I joined, but I’m glad I found out with the first guy I met. Take care ladies and watch your pocketbook and your heart~ xo

    • I was told to send money to that same person by a person by the name of Weston Taylor… I never did but took the information and downloaded his photos. Would like to see if we have the same photos..

  24. I was recently contacted by a Captain Larry Watts stationed in Russia. Same story as above, tells you that they love you in about 1 min of coversation (ok maybe a day)…Anyway, I emailed CJ the pictures that are being used.
Here is his email information : larrywatts94@yahoo.com
The address where packages can be sent: Lunachaskavo 42-282
    Saint Petersburg, Russia 199000
He wanted money for the infamous TS2 phone…which I did not provide.
Too bad for these soldiers whose faces are being used and abused.
Good luck ladies…don’t beat yourselves up…

  25. Oh… I forgot to add…here is the military email address for Larry Josh Watts:
    larrysetter@armymail.com

    • That email address is NOT a Military AKO and you are right he is a Fraud

  26. has anyone been talking to a Peter Strhelnert from New York New York? He claims his birthday is May 6 1968 and has 2 children a little boy 10yrs old Simon and a 14 yr old daughter Sophia. he says he is from Sweden but raised in Alabama….that his children are there with his MUM….Mrs Rose. he says he also owns a construction company with his brother Paul in Malyasia and Italy ..named LA Construction. he is also claiming that he is a DOCTOR(surgeon) in the US ARMY..and stationed at Hamilton in New York.
His major claim to money is that he needs help to get money to help him buy his dream home in New Jersey and his realtor is Gricil Rodriguez from Cartlet new Jersey..who happens to also have a husband in the UK by the name of Anthony Paul Riello……
I have been scammed out of $1800.00 so far.
he is now telling me he is in Lybia and needs money to get his DEPLOYMENT papers…so he can gt home this weekend (by the 1st of Dec).
if you or anyone else knows of this person….please let me know.
    His email address is peterstrehlnert@yahoo,com
i would really appreciate any information I can get on this person

  27. I have been targeted by one of these low lives. He’s calling himself Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Smith from San Francisco and is deployed to Libya. He claims he is a widow with a 9 year old daughter, named Dolly and both his parents are dead. I was contacted by him via MilitaryCupid.com
He asked me to help him retire from the army. He told me that because he’s on deployment someone has to apply for him and it’s going to cost $3,700 US Dollars. Luckily I found this website before it was too late.
I feel for the person who actually belongs to those photos he sent me. And to involve children?! There is clearly no depth these sick people will not sink to.
The email address he is using is adorablechris22@yahoo.com
I hope no other women fall for these scams.
Thank you to Anonn, I asked for his AKO and he refused to give it to me! I asked for his home address and phone number but told me his commander said not to tell me.

    • I have just realized that I have been scammed by this person. He presented the same story to me, and I fell for it! I refused to use Western Union to send the fee for his retirement, and he gave me an account in a Spanish (!) bank, that is supposedly registered to a Philip Morris (that is supposedly an american diplomat). His writing skills are really good, and me being a Norwegian, I was not able to spot any major errors in his writing. I have sent him close to 1.800$, and I now realize I will never see that money again. I sent the money on 5. december 2011, and I really wish I had read this earlier. I was contacted via the dating site http://www.muslima.com. He has a lot of pictures of himself and his daughter, and I really wonder who these persons really are.

      • You just saved me, I was boring without nothing to do and put the address of this guy, Christopher Smith who was swearing me eternal love, etc. I m pretty cautious, guy has been trying to “make me fall in love” since 4 months ago … never asked money from me, but after reading this of course I m going to block him … so sad about how stupid some ppl can be, and really sorry for those who got caught by this thieves.

  28. Another Facebook warning. Nigerian scammers are targeting single or divorced women using Facebook and stolen photos of US Soldiers. This is happening in Australia, in US, Indonesia – all over. You don’t have to be on a dating site to get hooked by these scammers. Unsolicited messages on Facebook from so called US Army soldiers got me caught up with a scammer. This one is using the name Gilbert Roland on Facebook – probably other names as well I know he is using more than one page with the same photos on facebook. All his photos are in US Army Uniform and with other US Army personnel. He claimed to be in Afghanistan. Like many other stories on this web site he claims his wife died in a traffic accident. He professes love very quickly, begins using honey or baby instead of your name, has a child back in the States who needs a Mom, wants to be a father for your children, wants to marry you etc etc. Has an explanation for everything..his accent does not sound American he says because he has been deployed in Afghanistan so long and speaking the language there has changed his accent, too many questiions and he gets insulted and feels so hurt by you because he loves you so much and you don’t trust him- it goes on and on. Needs money for airfare to come to you, then to pay for his leave form because he cannot access his bank account from where he is etc etc. Guess what – check and you will find out they can always access their bank accounts and don’t pay for leave.
Then surprise surprise he is suddenly transferred to Nigeria and you need to wire the money there not to Afghanistan via Western Union. He is quite clever but made too many mistakes in typing language, questions he ignored, and situations that did not sound plausable to have me fooled for long. His mistakes in trying to scam me would be funny if so many people around the world were not getting hurt emotionally and ripped off financially.
Why is there not a way to let the US Army know when you find out about these scammers? I have been trying for ages and no one seems interested. Surely even if you can’t catch the scammer the poor guy whose photos are being used ought to know about it. If you report the page to facebook all they will do is shut it down. The guy will have another page up with the same name and photos before you know it – this is what happened to me. He was back in contact within half an hour of having his page shut down.
Step up US Army – set up a hotline for reporting this worldwide – your genuine Military Personnel are being exploited by scammers using your personnel’s photos, your genuine personnel are being given a bad reputation on dating sites and Facebook because of it.
In some situations these scammers could be set up and caught – no-one seems to want to take any jusidiction for this.

  29. I have been in contact with someone claiming to be Lt.Col David Strommer. He says he is stationed in Afghanistan, is 55 years old and has two children. One daughter and one son. He says he has been in the army for 33 years, and getting ready to retire at the end of the year. His email is davidstrommer@yahoo.com. Has anyone else heard from him?

    • My mother has the same guy she is talking to now……She just started talking to him and telling me about this person so I decided to look him up… I take it he is a con man???

  30. I ALMOST got scammed by a Sargent Philips Wells. Same story as all of you above. Of course when someone professes to BE IN LOVE after 24 hours, it sounds wonderful, but when the huge list of things he wanted me to send him came next I had to wonder. Nothing added up. He could type a normal sentence, he couldn’t spell, he told me his wife died while delivering twins with NO explanation and that he was doing a Peace mission on his third tour of Iraq and was coming home in about a month and a half. He sent me lots of photos. My hope is that I can find out who the Army man is that he is using as a poser. He uses the email address sss_wells@yahoo.com and I met him on Match.com. The first three guys I responded to on Match.com were all scammers. They have all been removed as of this morning. Has anyone else met Sgt. Philips Wells? Thank you so much.

  31. Thanks to all of you have posted. I avoided getting scammed. and glad no money was exchanged. My scammer was named scott patterson. But I read through one of these websites to check the ip address and that will tell you exactally where the email originated from. I found out sooner than later he was from Nigeria. sgt.scottp@yahoo.com. Beware ladies and thank you.

  32. I am glad that most of you see through the scams. A few points to note that there are no NATO troops in Nigeria. Sgt Ramos is aware of the misuse of his pictures, but he is not on any social or dating sites and a google Image search will show how many scammers use the pictures. They are all recycled ones and he does not provide new ones. I can say on balance that most soldiers are aware of the misuse of their pictures, and the ones that are military on social sites are not using any pictures of them as a soldier. Pease bear in mind that soldiers fighting a war are not on line to strangers, they occupy such available time on their families.
You need some common sense about this.
Scammer reuse text so enter it into a google search and see what comes up. Search e mail addresses too. Use this easy handy tool http://www.romancescam.com/results.php. The results often come out but a negative one doesn’t mean they are real.

  33. I just wanted to let everyone know I was contacted by 2 different people from seniorpeoplemeet.com. Louis Vest, yes he attached a picture of Vest with the US Marines and a Justin Miller with pictures of a Miller in uniform.

loui.vest@yahoo.com…… dmiller50@rocketmail.com…… foreveryours201159@yahoo.com (this is Miller as well)

These guys are quick. I didn’t even have a profile finished and I had 2 on chat at the same time….I think I must have been having a great hair day when my profile picture was taken.

Geez! Both guy’s offered to help me set up yahoo instant messaging….so I set it up and both friended and were chatting……Vest is in Iraq, divorced his cheating wife 5 years ago, has a son 13 years old his friend in Ghana with an NGO is currently taking care of…D Miller has a 14 year old daughter his friend in Ghana with an NGO is taking care of……I swear these guys were typing at the exact same time……Miller finally beeped off IM because I wasn’t paying attention….LOL. Vest and I continued to message,,,,2 day’s of messaging….1 day off…..2 day’s on.

Tonight I got curious when he sent the “care list” and started researching…..alot of flaws in his story, age, schooling etc. He was so fast at getting the chat up on seniorpeoplemeet.com I didn’t see his name on there. dmiller contacted me the next day using another name, but it was the same person from senior meet then again today using Justin Miller….from the forever yours.

I caught on to Miller fairly quickly, because same guy using 3 different names on chat. The last time he did it he asked what I did for a living and I told him I wrote Erotica……LOL….never heard from him again.

Vest I talked to him tonight, it’s when he asked for the care “pack”….I’ve never heard it call this, package yes, pack no I got curious. I actually told him about Miller and he had a very good response…”we in the military are constantly getting our ID stolen to scammers”….Let me tell you Vest is one hot cookie and it was easy to talk to him. Though he was a Virgo and had no sense of humor, well didn’t understand my sense of humor.

I know this is very serious and we need to keeping getting word out about these people. But like others on here my concern is for the military guy’s being impersonated. If anyone know’s where to go to let them know I would appreciate the info.

Sorry if this is a little jumbled, I can’t see everything at once to edit the post.

    Thanks for the heads up…..

    • Blanca I believe I have told you before MILITARY members will not need your money for ANT reason they have access to their money at all times and if you dont know Ghana is where this scammer lives he is an African there is NO child nor relative the child lives with this is ONLY the scammer and the money is for him

Have you seen him on cam have you had an interactive chat with him for at least 1 hour let me guess no ask him to email you from his military email account it should end with .mil nothing passed the .mil if so it is a scammer pretending to be us military then google the email address he uses also check his ip at whatsmyipaddress.com Sunnyvale California? and hes using a proxy

Once again US Military will NOT need your money for ANY reason so he is a LIAR and an ugly african a beggar a con a fraud get the picture you have been warned Anonn

  38. Has anyone had or heard of a General Thomas Ramos of the U.S Army try to scam them. His story does not add up and my sister in-law is trapped in this mans web. I’m so scared for her…I have seen several with the name Ramos on here and the stories are somewhat familiar. Does anyone know of him he says he’s from NY and his wife is dead and has a son 9 yrs old. She met him on Dec18,2011 and is ready to marry him when he retires in Jan 2012. I saw pics of him and saw that he has 3 Chevrons which make him a Sargent not a General (He told her he is a 4 Star General but I saw no stars on his uniform) I have told her this and she still is convinced this guy is going to move her to NY and marry her…If someone knows something or has been scammed by him please let me know so I can stop her from making a huge mistake…Thank you

    • @ Bubs LOL Ramos AGAIN yeah known scammer VERY well known scammer and the fact that this scammer hasnt asked for money yet proves NOTHING they know not to beg for money right away seen him on cam for an interactive chat yet? if he or she or whatever this scammer is asks for ANYTHING it is a scam and he/she is a SCAMMER enough said.Anonn

    • Wanted to let you know of my experience of this General Thomas Ramos as he calls himself. He contacted me first on date hookup (dating site). Spoke nicely and sent emails from Jan 13 throurg Jan 16. Number of emails had mispelled words like a person would write that is not all that familiar with the English languarge but yet spelled enough of them right to make you think that it was just s dumb mistake. Anyway see some of his emails to me and see what you think. First one sent to me is “Hi, How are you doing? Just checked your profile and thought you might Love to check mine. what a great smile you have. Am interested in your profile and will like us to know more about each other and see where it takes us,what do you say about that? Take care of yourself, waiting to hear from you soon, bye, Thomas”. Another one he sent is “Yes yahoo is instant messaging. We can chat instantly over there. As time goes on we will figure how to do it. I cant do fone texting over here because i have a mission over here and more over, these are the serious times over here”. Last one I received today is this one, “Good morning,
How was your night? Hope you had a goodnight and sound sleep.I emailed you in your personal address and was waiting to hear from you over there. I never received any responds from you, Hope everything is okay with you. Well as am talking to you, am in Iraq Baghdad for my last peace keeping mission and will be home at the end of next month, by then i will become a retired soldier, hope you can wait? I want you to know that am a one woman man and believes in total honesty. Me being here and you being there will only prove the kind of feelings we have for each other. This dating site was created by my friend., I only gave him my information and about me. I have some reports to forward now, will be looking forward to hear from you very soon, bye. Thomas”. To say the least I became very supicious of this last email as I do not make up my mind whether someone is right for me through emails. I have to meet them and spend time with them to see if we are right for each other. This guy seems to have already made up his mind thus I know he is not wanting what I want. He obviously wants to exploit women for whatever he can get. I do not plan on being a victim so I told him to take a hike and don’t bug me anymore or contct me. I wanted to post this here so all who he has contacted using the name Genreal Thomas Ramos will be fore warned. This guy is up to no good. You heard hit here.

  39. Forgot to add he has not asked for money YET but he did have her buy water and snacks for him and is going to have guys in uniform come pick it up for him…Very strange if you ask me, the stuff has been sitting in her living room for 3 days now waiting for these guys to pick it up. They were supposed to be there 3 days ago? God,I would love to nail this dirt bag, so if anyone can help me call him out to her…Thanks again

    • Bubs your friend is being told a whole web of lies this is a scammer plain and simple so Ill be blunt he isnt retiring because he is an African he lives in Africa he will never come to be with her what is he homeless why doesnt he have his own little hut in Africa bottom line she will never see him or her money again if she sends him any and just like the water and snacks she will be a lady in waiting its that simple tell her to go to romancescam.com or scamwarners.com there are B8iters there that will also tell her the exact same thing I am typing he is a SCAMMER also if she is that in love with him tell her to flip the script on him and tell him she needs money for some assinine emergency you know what he will tell her he cant access his funds and I assure you they can access their funds no matter where they are…… since he loves her so much and they are about to live happily ever after tell her to tell him to send her money but first tell her she should ask him to send her a scanned copy of his Les for the last 6 Months, his Military Id and State Id Card not some photo shopped shit the real deal trust me he wont

They seem to be completely clueless when it comes to the US Military but yet they want to lie and pretend to be a Military member also many of them are begging to join the US Military to escape Africa they seem to do ANYTHING with the promise of a little bit of money

Title: Knight in shining armour seeking damsel
Description of yourself: I’m an average looking fella, almost 45 and all-round fun guy to be around with. I possess a good sense of humor, happen to be a hopeless romantic and very passionate at heart; you could say I put the “P” in the word. Still single and unmarried, serving Uncle Sam over the years hasn’t really given me much time to settle down and have a family but now that retiring is on my radar, I plan to catch up on lost ground. Hopefully I will be able to meet the woman of my dreams here, I believe that Age and Distance shouldn’t be a barrier when searching for companionship and love. Besides, relocating could be a possibility in the near future as well as trying my hands on something new.
    He is a scam ladies

  41. Have just realised that I have been scammed by someone claiming to be Sgt William Graves, sent photos and received photos, became suspect when he wanted to send me 2 million dollars that he had been given and was not able to take it back to the states with him, wanted my home address etc. Claimed to be divorced, 13 year old son waiting at home, looking for woman to start a new life etc, contacted a friend in the states who told me about these scams, went on line and sure enough found exact same sentences that had been sent to others who had been scammed. Worried about the photos I sent him and if they may be used illegitimately online for anything, but want to know where to post the photos he sent me to warn others about him, how do I do this? Met him through OASIS.com dating site

  42. Just been scammed and really can’t believe it. Sent money to Malaysia for a TS2 phone but got suspicious and nervous about sending Leave fee. I had googled his name right away (before he even brought up phone issues) when he started writing to me everyday but didn’t find any information. He is using the name of Captain Toro Moran, this must be a real soldier as one of the pictures shows him in uniform with a name tag on. His wife died 6 years ago in a car accident and he has a son and adopted a daughter 3 because he didn’t want his son to be alone. The children are being looked after by their Grandma ( wife’s mother) as his own mother died giving birth to him. Writes beautiful letters professing eternal love as he can’t wait to meet me when he comes on leave. Tells me he has a “house” in Manhattan (Told me that yesterday- that’s when the bells really started ringing and I googled Military service dating scam). He is using the pictures (several ) of this man and his children. There should be a way of letting those real soldiers know that their pictures have been highjacked! I thought I fell in love in the last two weeks, I was very vulnerable because I just went through a painful divorce last year. Told me he was raised in England until college then returned to the States for good after his father retired from the Military himself. When I asked him several times why he didn’t have a British accent, he told me he was raised in a very culturally diverse neighborhood and that because his whole career was in the Military , his accent was somewhat “diluted” ( this was also yesterday’s conversation) I knew this was a lie as I myself came to the States at 14 and still can’t totally get rid of a slight accent. Wished someone had posted his name before to come up on my search or that I had known about these scams. Please tell your story so other women won’t fall pray to these emotional and financial scoundrels!

  43. Has anyone ever heard of
sgt.wayne bolt he usues yahoo messanger sgtwaynbolt. I met him on my yearbook and I have been questioing him because I don’t believe him at
    all .

    • @ Tina you are smart not to believe him his name sounds like a typical name an african scammer would make up the easiset way to get the truth INSIST he shows himself on webcam and has an interactive face to face chat with you on webcam any reason why he cant ANY excuse at all he is a fraud also there should be no reason that he cannot email you from his military email address it should end in.mil nothing passed .mil. also if he is real military he will not need you money nor your assistance for anything but if he found you on some social network I guarantee you he is a scammer real Military members have families back home waiting for them they have no time to search social dating sites or any sites searching for some stranger to beg for money but African scammers do they consider it an honor and a job which is sick and pathetic if you ask me.

  44. Anyone heard of a SgtCarr41@yahoo.com. Also said he is on a “peace keeping mission.” Hasn’t asked for money but like some other ladies are saying, his terminology isn’t what we use here in the U.S.??

    • @ Heidi this part is a dead giveaway CJ has said this many times if they claim to be on a “peace keeping mission they are scammers anyways the easiest way to find out the truth DEMAND he get on web cam and have a full interactive chat with him for at least an hour meaning you see everything he does and says in real life not some prerecorded mess NEVER send him anything if he is real he will NOT need your help nor your money for any reason do not fall for the Im going to retire and come home to you nor the iphone scam either also if he finds ANY excuse as to why he cant get on webcam with you for ANY reason he is a scammer

tell him to email you from his military email address should end in.mil nothing passed .mil if he brags about being special ops for sure he is a scammer which we know he is anyways.Anonn

  45. Ok, never thought I would fall for a scammer but I did, recently seperated and maybe that is how they hit on your vunrability. Joe Raymond Moose, Captain, serving in Syria, about to retire to England, has a lovely house in Kingston upon thames, Born in turkey, parents died through a car crash, divorced 12 years but had a partner who who taken by nature 4 years ago (his words).

Wanted to send a package hone with 42Kg Gold dust to my home…come on, who is trying to kid!!! Sending by diplomat, (Maxwell) not sure what the scam would have been as quickly wised up the fact. I have friend who lives in Kingston and told him I was gong to ask for address to be checked and for Mr Joe Raymond Moose to send his creditials.. He turned the tables and said why did he not trust me blah, blah, blah.

Met him on Oasis, have photos so email me. Never thought I wold get sucked in by my god this guy was good and nearly head me, thank god I realised in time.

  46. The wesite plentyofsish.com. a dating website. He claims he lives in california and is a K-9 officer and was deployed to kandahar for work. His wife died in a car crash in Dallas 31/2 years ago. Goes by the name Harris Walker. Said he needed $300 for a phone and that the money could be sent through western union. Wants to move and is in love.Says he want to buy a vehicle and asks the limit on your credit card.

  47. He also has lots of pictures of him with his k-9 dogs.

  48. Oh I’ve got a scammer too. I’ve been a military brat. Received a scammer from a social network site. Saw the photos…rank didn’t match…dead give away, poor English, widower, daughter, etc. Trust issues, etc…I’ve been doing all my research and keeping the IM going so they don’t have time to scam others. Another helpful tip. CID PAO office issued a press release and recommends to contact your local CID office. Look it up and call. Have all the information, photos, etc. It ticks me off that they are using soldiers photos and on the flip side women fall for it especially if the woman in question isn’t familiar with military life…wanna verify rank look at the Velcro insignia on the chest…enlarge it…the outline will be clear…names on the left breast are blurred or scratched out. Just some helpful hints. Thank you for having this website. Boy are they dumb, but we are not! Do your homework ladies. Google search any terms or acronyms.

  49. Very interesting reading, I believe I am in the process of being scammed, I have sent a few photos through to “John Anderson” nycman_ja@yahoo.com .he claims to be an American soldier in Afghanistan. Has a ‘son’ called Brent that lives with a Nanny in Africa called Miss Agnes (his wife was killed in a car accident)…He has asked me to send some money to a Mr Ebenezer, ‘because it is his son birthday and he wants to surprise him, he cannot access his money as he is on a mission” using Western Union he will ‘owe’ me! , I said I am not going to that, I cannot do that. He gave me an address to then send a parcel. Ebenezer Achereko 13 New Avenue Street 11, West Africa 23321.

I now feel slightly embarrassed by this as I have told a couple friends of my “new” friend, at least I have not sent any money to this scammer, however, I did send him a few photos…Not good please BEWARE….I am so angry with myself….

Thanks (wish I had of known about this Military Scam a week ago)

    • @ Concerned great job of smelling a crock of BS…………Has a ‘son’ called Brent that lives with a Nanny in Africa …NOT one American speaks like this BUT Africans do and once their dumb asses mention Africa they are basically telling you all that you need to know Name ONE American that would be away in the war zone that would have a child with a Nanny in a shit hole Like Africa especially Nigeria or Ghana oh yeah that will happen like I said most scammers are VERY IGNORANT and under or uneducated.Anonn

  50. Dear Annon,

This LOSER has since emailed me a copy of an American passport, with a details, ID photo, DOB, Passport number, Address, Dates of when Passport expires etc…. It looks official. I feel very concerned for the person who the passport belongs to.

I had asked him to give me his military email address (he said) “don’t have one”. I have also checked the details of the emails, the way you have explained above…There is not mention of …. (.mil) nothing at all like that. What a total waste of time…My concern is the few photos i did send to him (thinking he was genuine) anyway I am aware of what to look for in future, thank you for that sort of information.

Just a question… Do US soldiers have access to their (regular USA) passport at base in (Afghanistan) or do they have US Army Passport along with a soldier ID card….

    Thankyou

    • @Concerned the answer to this question…..Do US soldiers have access to their (regular USA) passport at base in (Afghanistan) or do they have US Army Passport along with a soldier ID card….YES they do have access
to a US PASSPORT IF needed along with their Military ID and Military ID cards will NOT say Military ID card nor will it say Soldier ID Card these scammers are such idiots they lie and claim to be US military yet they know NOTHING about the US Military Thank GOD also ALL US Military have a Military email account and its NOT a free email provider so he proved he is a scammer when he said dont have one YET this Bum still sent you others credentials that hes stolen when he thought you were going to send him Money LOSER

This scammer is a LIAR there is no such thing as an Army passport google it and tell me what you find as far as I know US Military members that need a passport will have a US Passport just like everyone else there are no special passports for Military this just cam from My Husband who IS A REAL MILITARY MEMBER Not a fraud like this ugly African. No Thanks Needed Anonn

He has told me he wants to be with me but has asked me for nothing he says all he wants is my love.He has also said he wants to buy insurance buissness in uk wene he retires and he would like me to share his life with him. He cant write as nothing goes in the camp and nothing comes out oh god pls some one help me MICHA NELSON dose anyone know him

    • Hey Jacqui, Start by asking a few simple Questions…Like what is his military email address? Above this forum is how to check if any emails have com from .mil domian or server…If in the first few lines or so of the email it has nothing like a .mil he is a scammer, aslo if you are on msn or yahoo and chatting to him ask him to send you an email…Check the time sent from him and then ask him what the time is over there….google current times say in Afghanistan and then Accra Ghana (west africa) and you will see the the time difference and obviously your city….to compare! As CJ has mention he wuld have a . mil address in fact he probably has 2 one classified, one not classified that his family and friends can use, you can ask him for military ID……This story sounds like the one I had encountered, they pry on us women thinking that we have no life…Just because he found me on OasisActive does not mean that I am desperate, they say nice things to get us sucked in…and we think aaawwww this man is nice, open honest and seems caring.

They have access to their money I am told……Just go with your gut feeling, and if it feels weird or something is not quiet right…delete him he most probably is a scammer (he might be true) if he is, he will give his military email and ID…Dont let him tell you he has not got one…All the best, keep smiling xx We ahve all been duped this is why we are suss about these WANKERS…Have a good from Australia x

    • Jacqui you have asked these same questions over and over again and as I have said all this is a CROCK of BULLSHIT the webcam thing is a LIE.

deactivated his account= Dead Give away he is a scammer!

He cant write as nothing goes in the camp and nothing comes out No letters how convenient its just a scammers way of telling you he has no address which mean hes in Africa you know thats where he lives he is an AFRICAN Ive answered your questions numerous times

dont hesitate to let us know when he does beg you for money

IF he found you on any social site and all of a sudden is so in love with you he is a scammer you dont seem to get that he is a SCAMMER so why are you here? Anonn!

  53. Have a good day (I am from Australia) just saying mate! :-)

  54. I have been in contact with a guy for the past 3 months now, also military in Afganistan. His name is Larry Keesee, anyone heard of him? He also follows the same story of professing undying love, wants to talk on the phone then want to come out and meet you as soon as possible. After much reluctance, I paid the connection fee to Western Union (had to send the email requesting phone connection to militaryconcern@usa.com) and was told I would get a full refund after verification, which of course I haven’t got any money back. Now the leave request comes in and a letter to the military again. This time it’s a different address usarmymill@mail2army.com and again I need to pay for the air ticket costing $5,1000.00US. I have refused to do this and this was when I decided to check him out. His email address is larrykeesee@yahoo.com. He is stationed in Kabul in Afganistan. so he says. Anyone else heard from him too? His wife died of cancer 5 years ago and has been in mourning since then, has one son aged 21 years who lives in Coloroda Springs. He is 50 years old.

    • Has anyone spoken to lieutenant George Bronca. He has a profile with the name sexy1foru on oasisactive.com. He is 25 years old and says that he moved to Australia from US 5 years ago. He never asked for money but has really played with my emotions. He said he would want to spend his life with a girl like me and will come n see me on 24th Jan 2012 when he returns back from Afghan. But he stopped talking to me 10days prior to his return, so I thought of doing some research on him and found out that he used the pictures of an American Model Calvin Martin to fool me. he asked me to send more pics of mine as he wanna c me all the time so I sent few on his email id aus_military_comando@gmail.com, we used to chat on yahoo as well for hours his id there was george_brn_28 which after my discovery has now been changed t0 george_brn. His another yahoo id is usa_military_comando. His skype id is george45413. I am really hurt with all this scam, so plz keep ur eyes open. He is very good in talking and can win your heart within few minutes of talking.

  55. Has anyone knows this name gregor micheal his email gregor0194@yahoo.com asked money –scam from \Lagos, nigeria.

  56. FYI if this info is helpful to anyone, I was contacted on a dating site recently by two scammers claiming to be US military, deployed.

Please be notified of both, I knew something was wrong in both cases (my parents are both military veterans), cut off contact, and notified the admin of the website and their profiles were deleted.

One by the name of “Chris Purple” with a Yahoo email for ‘purplegem’. Said he was in the military, deployed…a widower…had two pictures, one of a man on a boat, another of the same man at a ski resort…none of him in uniform and no .mil email, just the yahoo addy. Stated after three sentences in an email that he wanted to get leave to visit me….would I pretend to be his spouse or a relative so he could get leave…and he had told me he was widowed! Of course the thing about the leave is a scam.

The second was much more skilled and is quite the scammer. I let him run on a little because I was searching the Internet to find out who he really was so I could report as much on him as possible.

He goes by the name of SSGT E06 Raymond Perez Legget, in Afghanistan supposedly. He may also go by the names of Perez Scott, Scott Raymond, Raymond Scott, Perez Legget, etc. He also has a page on Facebook by the name Raymond Legget with same man in uniform picture that was on the dating website, but his IP address is Florida/London. He uses a yahoo address and yahoo IM. He has many pictures of a US army Staff Sergeant in uniform with his 10 man squad, and is familiar with military terminology and some deployment details….even has a picture of his ‘son’ and suddenly his ‘son’ emailed me too. Claims his wife died in a traffic accident recently, his twin bro died in battle with him, his best friend died, the usual stuff of scammers posing as US military personnel.

This second guy is really toxic…. He does the usual, within three sentences in an email he dumps his emotional pains and ‘trials’ and claims he has found his lifelong love in me…yada yada yada all without ever seeing my picture.

I was amazed at the amount of information he has to present himself as a soldier.. .also claims ‘the general’ comes in to talk to him, he has no phone, the Taliban are breaking into his camp, this is all pretty false, but he claims he is going out on ‘patrol’ etc and will need to talk when he gets back. He also wanted to talk over a webcam.

This guy seems to shovel out big personal tragedies and big deployment trauma to get someone to feel sorry for him, when I suggested he couldn’t possibly have such sudden feelings for a total stranger, he even began threatening to hurt himself.

He also said when he returned from deployment in three months that he would retire and he and I and his son (who had never had a mother’s love…) could be the family of his dreams. Yah, right.

His words and grammer go back and forth between good English and strange grammar, so he must be stealing words from other Internet sites. He also steals poetry, part of his email was in rhymes and I traced some of that too on the NET to the original sites where he stole it from.

As near as I can tell he is Nigerian from pictures of his friends on Facebook because there seem to be several Facebook pages he has, but if you didn’t know much about the military he could be convincing.

    Hope this helps someone.
