A SOLDIER'S PERSPECTIVE
THE WEB'S LEADING MILITARY BLOG SINCE 2004
Not long ago, I heard what I thought were gunshots near Harker Heights. I didn’t hesitate heading in the direction of the gunshots to ensure there weren’t any dead or injured people and make sure that some madman wasn’t on the loose. I never did find where the shots came from, but it illustrates what I think many troops would do in similar cases (provided, of course, they aren’t the SOURCE of the gunshots!). It doesn’t make me or anyone else necessarily a hero, just dumb enough to run into the unknown!
But, the reality is that most people run AWAY from gunfire when they hear it. It’s a standard response to a stressor: fight or flight.
Ranger Up has a great new shirt coming out that embodies that ideal.

So what was going on near where you heard gunshots when you got there?
